Shitachi executes Kote nuki Kote against Uchitachi in this kata.
Uchitachi and Shitachi takes Chudan.
Tips:
- After striking, you should not be tense. You should relax.
- Both should maintain the state of sen but especially shitachi.
- Shitachi must keep still until the uchitachi’s kote cut is just about to get him/her.
- The motion of kote nuki should be big and like drawing a half circle. The way of Miyazaki sensei is “drawing a fishing hook“.
Miyazaki sensei and I have confirmed that the instructional book says “execute the nuki here as if you were drawing a half circle with your sword“
- Use your sword so your strength is focus on monouchi, i.e. Differentiate the ways of your strike between shinai kendo and kata
- You should stop your sword about 10cm (4 inches) above your target. As you get better, close the distance.
- The nuki motion and striking motion should be one motion.
