This kendo instructional video introduces joge-buri. Joge buri is one of the basics that beginners must know.
Jo means up and ge means down. Buri is swing so it is “up and down swinging movement“.
Some points you must pay attention:
- Do not think that you are swinging your sword
- Think that move your hands straight up and straight down
- Do not pull your sword up with the right hand
- Lift your sword up with the left hand
- Your left hand should be above your head
- Do not let the tip of the sword or kensaki down when it is above your head

Hi Sensai
Yep at 70 practicing again; still issues with one opponent that is like 35 yrs old; last practice he came at me big time in “can’t remember” the name of it;
anyway stood my ground; he looked (like) wtf.
anyway glad to practice again; frankly; there are nice, smart adults in the Saturday class,; that’s when I practice: and a few as wipes; if you get my drift; including ranked practitioners.
Anecdotally; One ranked guy; who in my opinion is an asl;got his butt kicked by my Nemesis; Han Soo: and than had the balls to (during Jekeio) to tell me what to do; omg fkn rank at my age is mute.
Anyway; as always great web site; maybe I’ll do the Patron thing; I’d rather contribute directly to you.
