Ippon-Me: Kata No.1: Men Nuki Men

Shitachi executes Men nuki Men against Uchitachi in this kata.

Uchitachi and Shitachi takes Jodan.

  • Uchitachi takes Hidari-Jodan
  • Shitachi takes Migi-Jodan

Miyazaki sensei talks tips to look your kata more beautiful and also to make it easier for you.

  • Shitachi takes Migi-jodan but if you keep your left hand a little lower, it is easier for you to execute this nuki technique and your nuki looks better.
  • When starting from where left off, make sure that you start from “kamae wo toku” position.
  • The strength each of your left fingers should be…5, 4, 2, 1, 2.
  • Muscles at he bottom side of the left forearm should be used.
  • The strength each of your right fingers should be…1, 1, 2, 1, 2.
  • Do not drop the kensaki down when executing the nuki waza. Push it toward the direction where the kensaki is already pointing at.
  • Make your cut bigger without putting unnecessary strength. Use the weight of the sword.
  • Uchitachi should lean forward a bit after executing the men strike. And keep the posture when stepping backward.
  • Shitachi pushes Uchitachi back with his/her kensaki on the second step forward.
  • Kiai should come out from the lower stomach
