Miyazaki sensei spent a long time on kata.
I wanted him to but also he thinks that kata needs to be studied by all the kendoists.
He probably thinks that he is obligated to teach kata because he studied under many great senseis who also emphasized the importance of kata. Or may be He spent a lot of time on Kata because…
- People do not study kata enough
- People are horrible on kata
- People do not see kata as important
- Kendo is forgetting its roots (This is my opinion)
If you study kata, you know you can improve your kendo (with shinai). I, 6-dan as of October 2015, really think kata is deep. As you study kata, it gets deeper.
Learn thoroughly. You won’t regret.
