Gohon-Me: Kata No.5: Men Suriage Men

Shitachi executes Men Suriage Men against Uchitachi in this kata.

Tips:

  • Uchitachi is cutting down the sword to the chin in Kata No. 5.
  • Uchitachi lets go the sword and relax after the bokuto is being suriaged.
  • Shitachi takes hira-seigan, the blade should be facing down to the left a bit.
  • Lift your hands slightly up when taking hira seigan
  • The feet of Shitachi don’t move when lowering the sword on a way to hidari jodan.
  • Zanshin should be present until you put your sword in “kamae wo toku” position.
  • Be aware of the position of suriage. Execute suriage before the sword comes down low.
  • Use both hands for suriage as if you are drawing a half circle.
